Bring our legends back to life
Les Fresques de l'ouest

At Roasters Foundation, we believe that building community starts when one person's vision ignites a passion in those around him to join together for a collective cause.

That is exactly what happened when our Executive Director, Rachel Renaud, met pharmacist and entrepreneur, Roger Simard.

Roger explained to her that when the little grocery store in Pointe Claire Village closed down after years of serving local residents, he felt called to do something to bring new energy into the community. His goal, in opening a general store called l'Epicerie du Village in the same location, was about more than bringing in a new business. Instead, he described to her that it is about taking the first step in a movement of community renaissance. To help spread this message, he realized, would require a bigger medium, maybe even as big as a building. This is how the idea for Les Freques de l'ouest was born.

Guided by world renowned Murale Creation, this project will use beautiful images to communicate the stories of our past and the dreams of our future.

The first phase of this project celebrates the 300th anniversary of the Paroisse of Pointe Claire. The mural is being painted on the western wall of L'Épicerie du Village, located at 323 Lakeshore Road and will illustrate important milestones in Pointe Claire's history.

The second phase is devoted to community engagement. Drawing on the role art plays as an instrument of inclusion, we will work with local organizations and invite young people to participate in the creation of murals throughout the area. This will provide them with an opportunity to learn new skills, work in a team and channel their artistic talents in order to make a lasting and beautiful impression in their neighborhood.

At Roasters Foundation, we believe that the arts can serve as a powerful vehicle through which to make education more accessible to all. Moreover, we are inspired by Roger Simard's will to build community in Pointe Claire Village. This is why we have taken the lead in promoting Les Fresques de l'ouest, and look forward to seeing this project through to its completion.
